Mission Statement: To inspire others to work safely and efficiently through reducing ergonomics risk factors, improving the built environment, identifying ergonomics equipment, tools and furniture, and teaching safer ways to use the body.
Mallory Lynch has a Master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of California, Berkeley and is Board Certified in Professional Ergonomics as an Ergonomics Associate. She provides ergonomics consulting services in the home and work environments. See more information below.
During Mallory's 23 years as the lead Campus Ergonomist, at the University of California, Berkeley, she provided ergonomics consulting in a variety of workplace environments and reduced ergonomics risks, injury rates, and associated costs. Successful strategies included:
· Utilizing best practices and lessons learned from helping high-risk departments and injured workers
· Partnering with design teams and implementing ergonomics design requirements for the built environment
· Developing ergonomics criteria for UC system-wide purchasing contracts for ergonomics equipment and furniture
· Developing extensive educational resources and short informative videos to teach others how to safely use their bodies
· Collaborating with UC Berkeley's Emergency Operations Center in developing the home ergonomics and telecommuting program during COVID-19.
I have experience analyzing a wide variety of environments and can also apply ergonomics principles to environments that are not listed below:
· Home and office computer workstations
· Built environment
· Research laboratories
· Laboratory animal care
· Pharmacy and Clinical care
· Early Childhood Education Centers
· Dining
· Housing
· Custodial
Virtual and in-person assessments for home and office computer work areas and non-computer work environments. Applicable for individuals and groups.
Zoom and in-person trainings for computer and non-computer work environments; discuss ergonomics risk factors, illustrate safe body mechanics to reduce the risk factors (job specific) and have participants practice the new techniques in relation to their specific job tasks to create an effective learning environment.
Review architectural drawings for new construction and remodels to offer ergonomics design criteria for the computer and the non-computer built environments. Provide input on proposed equipment and furniture, as needed.
Companies and individuals are often uncertain how to make the best selections for task chairs, stools, adjustable tables and more. Decisions based solely on cost typically fall short of the mark. By incorporating ergonomics design criteria into the cost and quality of the selections, the furniture and equipment will fit a wider range of people and reduce ergonomics risks.
“When an ergonomist is the room, everyone's posture is so much better! Thank you for championing ergo in our campus food facilities and plan reviews, plus all the other ways you improved life on campus. You always share a warm smile and positive energy with everyone you meet.”
Patrick Kaulback, Assistant Manager, Health & Safety, UC Berkeley
“Mallory, it has been great working with you. We still have a way to go on the procurement journey to ensure ergonomics safety in our workplace, but without your dedication and focus, we would not even be on that procurement journey.”
Russell Chung, Chief Procurement Officer, UC Berkeley
“I have learned so much from you about ergonomics, especially regarding the Customer Sales and Service Counters. Lots of challenges that pushed us all to think different, but great learning opportunities that I would not have gotten anywhere else.”
Seana Turner, Design Studio Manager, One Workplace, Oakland, CA
“Thank you, Mallory, for your guidance and expertise throughout the years! You were one of the first few staff employees at UC Berkeley that I met with early on in my career (10 years ago!). I learned so much about ergonomics from you. I still do appreciate that you took the time to give me one of my first campus tours of trash enclosures, restaurants, office spaces, etc. and had the patience in showing me how to assess certain design elements and how it affects the users. Being out in the field and observing these spaces with you gave me a unique perspective on form vs. function. Working with you on how to communicate these requirements to architects/engineers was such a fun and rewarding experience! I learned from you how simple design changes can make a significant impact on people's lives.”
